We care deeply about the number of artificial substances we encounter in our lives and take into our bodies – synthetic flavours, perfumes, and preservatives, which people of previous generations were never exposed to. Friends and family members with asthma, allergies and nasty illnesses have given us cause us to wonder what the effects of these chemicals might be.

Synthetic ‘fragrances’

In other soaps, ‘fragrance’ means a chemically designed, synthetic scent that’s been designed in a laboratory. Manufacturers of these ‘fragrances’ are not required to disclose their ingredients, and almost never do.

There’s no such thing in nature as ‘banana’, ‘baked apple’, or ‘tutti frutti’ essential oils. Because they’re mass-produced, these fragrances are far cheaper, and have a much stronger, longer lasting scent than genuine essential oils (which are the actual perfumes distilled from plants and herbs). That’s why most manufacturers use synthetic ‘fragrances’ in their soaps.

Once you begin using products with natural essential oils, though, you’ll easily be able to tell the difference between a synthetic fragrance and a natural perfume.

Try this: Read the labels on your current soaps and other bath products.

If they say ‘fragrance’ or ‘fragrance oils’, they almost certainly use synthetic scents made from undetermined ingredients. Even most soaps which claim to be ‘natural’ often contain these or other synthetic ingredients.

Synthetic fragrances, animal fats and petroleum products are much cheaper ingredients than the food-grade vegetable oils, and the costly essential oils which we use in all of our soaps.

We only use the finest natural ingredients, because we care about what goes onto your skin.
